Mountain West 5, PAC-10 ZERO!

So much for the BCS conferences dominating the mid majors! The Mountain West is 5-0 against the PAC-10, capped off by BYU's complete destruction of UCLA, 59-0!

2008 Results So Far:

BYU 59
UCLA 0

UNLV 23
ASU 20

TCU 31
Stanford 14

New Mexico 36
Arizona 28

BYU 28
Washington 27

Since when was your conference so pathetic?

Yet another example of why the monopolistic nazi "good ol' boy" BCS system is lame and there should be an equal opportunity playoff at the end of the year!

So true. College football should have a system like some of the soccer leagues where the worst "power conference" gets replaced every year by the best non-power conference. Ok, not really. Then the power conferences would schedule all their non-conference games against division III teams to ensure a high winning % (which is what the SEC does currently). What should really happen is a playoff in which all conferences get an automatic bid. Duh. Like basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball . . . and all other teams sports that actually have a legitimate champion.

Actually I would be fine with using the current BCS system to determine the seeding for the playoffs. That way no conferences are favored. I don't think it would work to give the conference champions an automatic bid because there are way too many conferences, and a 2nd place team in a better conference could be the 2nd best team in the country. So stick with or tweak the current BCS system to determine the seedings of the playoffs, don't give any automatic bids, and the only thing left is to figure out how many teams to have in the playoff. I say 16, or 24 with a first round bye for the top 8 seeds.

I'm fine with using the current BCS system for the seedings as long as there are NO automatic bids. There cannot be automatic bids for just some of the conferences if we want to avoid being nazis. The one problem I see with using the current system is it would give voters incentive to vote for the teams that lobby the best. That can't be avoided, but why not avoid it as much as possible? There are 11 conferences. We should give out 11 automatic bids and 5 at larges. Sure, some conferences are better than others, but that is due to the current "power conference" system. This new system would eliminate unfair recruiting advantages that "power conferences" have and the balance of power would eventually even out a bit. Of course there will always a best conference, but they can fight for the 5 at larges.

That's how I would do it to, like basketball. 5 at-large bids is still quite a few and every team has the opportunity to get to the playoffs outright by winning their conference. And it introduces the element of Cinderellas making runs in the tournament, again like basketball. January Madness.

Problem with January Madness is that football is completely different from basketball. Lebron singlehandidly made the Cavs and elite team. Curry single handidly made Davidson a force, and with some good players supporting him, Davidson was Elite 8 (and 1 basket away from the Final 4). Most often, the best mid-major's starting line up is on par with the big boy's paid starting line up, but the depth is an issue. But a playoff would be great. Currently, teams like fucking Duke have a better chance than Utah, TCU, Boise, all of would shit all over Duke in a game. It'd take a few years for the talent to disperse, as teams like Stanford and Baylor can no longer say "We're playing for a National Championship", and steal recruits from TCU, etc. Problem now is that mid-majors can't advance their programs to the next level. Bowling Green was mudstomping Purdue and nearly beating Ohio State a few years ago, and look at them now. It's not because the Coach suddenly forgot everything, but it's that once his talent leaves, it's that hard to replace them. Fuck the BCS. Only BCS fans(the equivalent of surburbanites living in a bubble) like them.
